Have a break… Have a KitKat Sandwich?
As if wasabi KitKats aren’t weird enough, the Japanese have now put one of our favourite wafer sandwiches…. into a sandwich.
Japanese fast food outlet First Kitchen has created a beast of a treat which combines a KitKat with white bread, whipped cream and a generous sprinkling of orange peel…yum?
Complementing the delicate flavours of cream and orange, the chocolate bars used are speciality ‘KitKat for Café’ bars which are extra crispy – because who doesn’t love crunchy, creamy, citrus chocolate bread?
The bars have been given high praise by those daring enough to dive in. Described on First Kitchen’s website (run through google translate) as a “glutinous mouthfeel,” this odd snack is gaining enough prestige to rival the Cronut (the unlikely love child of a croissant and a doughnut – if you were wondering).
A new addition to the current trend of hybrid foodstuffs, the KitKat sandwich is perhaps dubious as a gastronomic innovation, but offering what is essentially an entire packed lunch in a mouthful – if nothing else, it’s efficient.
The sandwiches are a thrifty snacker’s dream at only 200Yen (£1.23) each, but currently they are only being served in Japan, so you’ll have to decide whether it’s worth the plane ticket to hunt one down or perhaps you could try and create one at home.
